Costa Rica to embarrass Mexico

Costa Rica are tough, high-profiled, and thus poised to create more worries than any other team has ever inflicted on Mexico in this Gold Cup competition. But El Tri also possess its group of key players like Giovanni Dos Santos and Sabbah. Sabbah is Mexico’s leading goal scorer in the Gold Cup tournament with four goals – two of which came against Haiti last weekend.

But El Tri may not only have to rely on their striking potential. The Mexicans have netted nine times and conceded only one goal in the competition. Still, they’ll need to work hard again to protect their lines at the back. Scoring a couple of goals sometimes is enough, but when defense is not properly executed, it could also prove too little.

USA v Honduras is arguably the most anticipated match of the semifinals Gold Cup Competition.

Both already met in the second round of the tournament and the Yankees run 2-0 victors. Will there be a repeat of this story or will Los Catrachos succeed in humbling the Gold Cup’s defending champions?
Honduras surely reached the semis on a controversial tone with Walter Martinez’s 35th minute penalty making the difference against Canada. With the political crisis currently existing in Honduras, the national football team might symbolize Thursday’s hot clash against the USA as a game for peace. Predictably, the importance of that encounter will be of a greater significance than much of Hondura’s previous games against the USA.

In 2001, Los Catrachos defeated the Yankees 3-2 in a World Cup qualifier. Since then, the USA have never lost against an opposition coming from North America or from Caribbea.

Can Honduras put all the problems that are happening in their home country behind by calling on the spirit of eight years ago to beat the Americans again?

Bob Bradley’s squad will enter Thursday’s game as the CONCACAF’s defending champions. However, the team’s line up will feature almost no regulars. Strikers Charles Davies and Freddy Adu, defenders Cherundolo and Parkhurst, and midfielder Feilhaber will be missing as they’ve all joined their European clubs ahead of next season.

However, Bob Bradley has shown on a consistent basis in this competition that his squad was capable of winning regardless of the size of the names in the starting line-up.

After pushing Panama all the way to extra-time where they eventually beat them 2-1, do USA have the strength to oust Honduras?
